I, along with a lot of gamers had though that Nintendo shot themselves in the foot by releasing the Nintendo 2DS. For those of you that don’t nor or don’t care, The Nintendo 2DS is a budget price version of the 3DS. It’s cheaper, lighter, it looks like a dual screen tablet, and it does away with the 3D. I thought at this point, Nintendo had boldly and indirectly gone back on their promise of an immersive 3D gaming experience.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata clarified, that the 2DS was simply for consumers to be apart of the 3DS craze without paying extra for 3D. More specifically: “Nintendo 2DS is, however, simply one of the options for consumers and we will continue to offer the existing Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL platforms in the overseas markets, and we are not saying that we will abandon 3D or cease to make new propositions in 3D.”
He would then go on to say: “The Legend of Zelda [A Link Between Worlds] title that we are going to release toward the end of the year is a superb showcase of the 3D effect, featuring a top-down style and offering a new form of gameplay by taking advantage of the 3D effect vertically.”
Which I hope is true. I’ve yet to play a game on the 3DS in which the 3D effect actually improves gameplay. More specifically, a game in which it would be impossible to fully enjoy with the 3D effect. It may sound a bit naive of me to ask of this though.by
