NetherRealm Studios has announced that it will continue online support for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions of the fighting game Mortal Kombat 9 even after the closure of GameSpy’s online services on May 31.

“We are currently in the process of migrating Mortal Kombat 9 from Gamespy’s servers and expect things to go smoothly,” the developer said on Mortal Kombat’s Facebook page. “During the transition, players may experience an interruption of online play and matchmaking and we ask for your patience during this time.”

However the PS Vita will not be receiving the same treatment, they won’t be able to access any online multiplayer features after May 31. PS Vita players will only be able to play ad-hoc multiplayer matches. NetherRealm did not state why online support was not extended to the PS Vita version of Mortal Kombat but it maybe be a business decision since the PS Vita isn’t doing so hot.
