After legendary actor and comedian Robin Williams passed this week, fans created a petition for Nintendo to pay homage to him in the next Legend of Zelda game. Robin Williams was a huge Zelda fan, even naming his daughter after the princess herself. The petition sprung up on Change.org and gathered over 90,000 signatures asking to name one of the non-playable characters, Robin, after the late actor. Nintendo responded to the petition today, stating:
“Robin Williams was loved at Nintendo.”
“Our hearts go out to his entire family, and especially to Zelda Williams who we’ve worked with multiple times.”
“We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community, and hear the request of fans to honor him in a future game. We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close.”
It sounds like the odds could be pretty high, especially considering Nintendo’s ties with the Williams family, and their change of heart when it comes to listening to fans recently. I think this would be a really cool way for Nintendo to tribute a man who has touched the hearts of millions, but only time will tell.
Rest in peace Robin. You will be missed.by
