Level 5’s game Yo-Kai Watch launched in Japan on the 3DS in 2013, and it has been a huge hit in the region ever since, spawning sequels, a manga, an anime series, and even a feature length film. Nintendo is planning on bringing the first game in the series to West in 2016. The game is supposed to remain mostly intact as only a few names within the game are in the list of localization changes, most likely to make the game resonate more easily with Western audiences. There are also plans to bring future sequels, the anime, the film, and merchandise over to Western regions, as well. I’m glad that the game is being localized, but I do wonder if the series will have the same kind of success in the West as it has in Japan.
