The latest rumor related to Nintendo’s next hardware project, the NX, has arrived. Venture Beat has reported that AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) will be manufacturing the NX’s processor. According to AMD’s CEO and president Lisa Su, the company agreed to a contract worth around one billion dollars to create a semi-custom chipset for Nintendo’s new hardware.

Nintendo will move on from the Wii U’s IBM’s PowerPC to the x68-based AMD-made processor. According to AMD’s chief financial officer Devinder Kumar, the company has deals for both x68 and ARM processors. One is for gaming (most likely the x68), and one is for something else. However, he said that he can’t say more until Nintendo is ready to make their reveal of the NX. Here’s his statement:

“I will say that one is x86 and the other is ARM, and at least one will be beyond gaming, right. … They [the customers] are going to announce it and then … you will find out that it is AMD’s APU that is being used in those products.”
