Final Fantasy XV Director Leaves Project to Focus on Kingdom Hearts III

Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura will be stepping down from Final Fantasy XV in order to focus more on Kingdom Hearts III. In his place, co-director Hajime Tabata will be stepping in as the main director for the project.

Apparently, Nomura will be focusing on other titles as well, in addition to the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts III.

“Currently, Tabata and the entire development team are working, whole-heartedly, towards completing the production of Final Fantasy XVand ensuring the delivery of the highest quality Final Fantasy title to date,” said Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda.

“Tetsuya Nomura has mainly worked on the original concept for the [Final Fantasy XV] story and universe in addition to creating the character,” Matsuda stated. Hereafter, he will be focusing his efforts on the production of titles that can only be made possible by Nomura, himself, and delivering products that exceed the quality of past titles, starting with another one of his representative projects, Kingdom Hearts III. Square Enix will continue to work on these titles with the best staff formation in an effort to deliver them to everyone as soon as possible and appreciates your continued support.”

This is definitely good to hear. The reason Kingdom Hearts III took so long to start in the first place is because Nomura was working on other projects for years. While I thoroughly enjoyed the handheld titles (that are indeed extremely important to the story, contrary to popular belief) and the HD collection, it’s good to hear that the climatic end to the Xehanort Saga will be given much more attention, meaning fans should be able to play the game sooner than expected.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix is coming December 2nd in North America for Playstation 3, and will feature HD remasters of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, and cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded.
