While it is not confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be coming out on the next-generation PlayStation but we may be willing to say that it is being developed alongside the PlayStation 4 version.
Speaking to Game Informer, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda said when asked if the first installment will make it to next-generation or if the installments will be split across generations of consoles:
“It’s the hottest topic at the moment and we thought you might ask us that. I believe that our teams have made it so that the game will support both the next generation and the current generation of consoles. I believe it is being developed so that it is going to be playable on both.”
According to this, we can take it as the game is being developed as a cross-gen title and will also release for PS5 whenever it releases. I am not surprised by this news. It will make sense for Square Enix to take advantage of the next-gen while also catering to the fans are still on PS4.
