The beginning of the cross-platforming of consoles is finally upon us. Sony and Microsoft have discussed the team up and support of cloud services and certain projects of the respective companies.
While nothing is exactly specifying cross platforming of gaming, the two companies are collaborating with Microsoft Azure in terms of cloud based content. Sony is said to be using Microsoft Azure for future services and content. Could this mean a new interface for PlayStation 5 being introduced? If not the launch edition, the features may definitely be in the second edition or upgraded model PlayStation 5.
With E3 coming next month, thoughts on more details regarding this announcement is being discussed among the community. Since PlayStation will not have a true traditional presence in the convention, it may cause one to wonder what these companies are planning for the consumer. Gamespot sourced a statement from stating “PlayStation itself came about through the integration of creativity and technology,” Sony president Kenichiro Yoshida said in the announcement. “Our mission is to seamlessly evolve this platform as one that continues to deliver the best and most immersive entertainment experiences, together with a cloud environment that ensures the best possible experience, anytime, anywhere. For many years, Microsoft has been a key business partner for us, though of course the two companies have also been competing in some areas. I believe that our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute greatly to the advancement of interactive content.”
