Earlier this month, Nintendo showed off Super Mario Maker 2 and its new four player competitive mode and online co-op. Releasing June 28th, it will give players the opportunity to create stages and devise their own labyrinths of intricate detail.
However, via Youtube channel GameXplain we have discovered that you will not be able to play with your friends online. The statement given to GameXplain is below:
“This is true. As the game is now, you cannot create friend lobbies online. You can only play online with randoms. You can still get friends together and play with local play, and you’re free to play with four players on one Nintendo Switch system. You can also still challenge your friends to your creations and take on their designs through Course IDs and having them follow your Maker profile.”
It comes across as a strange restriction considering Nintendo has gone to great lengths to emphasize the potential of the multiplayer in the weeks leading up to its release. Hopefully we will see this amended at some point so that players will be able to get the most enjoyable experience out of this title.
