Seems like Super Smash Bros. 4 for Wii U and 3DS will be hitting store shelves sooner than expected. Many Nintendo fans feel that the 4th installment in the series will receive just as many delays as Brawl and will be launching next holiday season rather than next year, but according to Nintendo of Germany’s General Manager, Bernd Fakesch, SSB4 will be launching in the Spring, alongside Mario Kart 8.
In an interview with German publication Neckar-Chronik, Fakesch had this to say:
“For next spring two more big license games are also announced for our TV console with Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.”
As I’ve said before, many fans I have spoken to are extremely pessimistic when it comes to how they feel the development of Smash 4 is coming along. I’ve argued time and time again that a Spring or early Summer release is definitely possible, seeing as how Smash games have always had roughly 2-year development cycles and Sakurai now has a much bigger team this time around, thanks to Namco’s involvement. Not to mention that this time around, there will be no Subspace Emissary-like single player, so the team doesn’t have to spend all of that extra time and resources making this long fleshed-out single player campaign.
Now this is no confirmation by any means – for all we know, Mr. Fakesch could simply be mistaken. But based of the reasoning I gave above, I’d say that guy knows what he’s talking about.by
