Watch Dogs Gets a Firm Release Date, Wii U Excluded

Ubisoft has finally confirmed that the Playstation, Xbox, and PC versions of Watch Dogs will be hitting store shelves on May 27th 2014. GAME, a major UK-based game retailer, initially Tweeted earlier today that the game was going to be launching at the end of May, and was confirmed once a “leaked” story trailer of the game that was first on (as spotted out by  Videogamer). Ubisoft then went ahead and confirmed the news themselves.

“We are pleased to be able to reveal to gamers all over the world the new release date for Watch Dogs,” said Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Ubisoft. “We are extremely confident that the additional time we afforded the dev team to refine and polish the game will be more than worth the wait.”

Regarding the Wii U version, senior producer on the game, Dominic Guay, reiterated that the Wii U version is not at all canceled, it’s release is just on hold as of now.

“Yeah it’s still alive,” he said. “We still haven’t defined a ship date for it, though. So it’s on hold, to a certain extent for shipping.”

“We don’t have a specific ship date for it yet so it’s considered within the year,” he said. “So we’re going to look at that and we’re going to let people know as soon as we figure out an exact date for it.”

This isn’t necessarily new information here, as Ubisoft confirmed a while back that the Wii U version was getting delayed, but these latest quotes make it sound as if the game may not be launching anywhere near the dates of the other versions. Polygon even mentioned that Guay stated that “a 2014 ship date for that version of the game is still a ‘possibility.'” Is it possible that the Wii U version of the game may not release this year at all?

If that is indeed the case, then Ubisoft will have essentially guaranteed that Watch Dogs will perform abysmally on Nintendo’s latest system. Let us know what you think down below.

  1. Im going to say this one time only

If Ubisoft use poor sales of Watchdogs on Wii U as justification to attack the Wii U like they did with ZombiU I will consider my support of Ubisoft well and truly over

You blamed Nintendo for your failings with ZombiU
You held back Rayman for months so you could release it on all platforms at the same time
and now you Release Watchdogs on every platform except the Wii U leaving the Wii U out of one of its biggest AAA 3rd party titles..

I really am sick of the way big 3rd party developers/publishers are treating Nintendo these days
and Im even more sick of how these developers/publishers are blaming Nintendo for their games not selling on the console specially when it’s soo painfully obvious that the failings are the fault of the developer/publisher

Holding the Wii U version of Watchdogs back is obviously going to dramatically effect overall sales of the game on Wii U

I myself will wait for the Wii U version but this is the last chance Ubisoft have to own up to their mistakes
if Watchdogs flops on Wii U and you blame Nintendo again for it
then I will refuse to support your company anymore that much is a damn promise
