A new Wii U update is available for download. Nintendo has outlined all the notes regarding this update:
“Version 3.1.0 U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:
Improvements to Standby Functions:
The standby functions will now regularly connect to the Internet when the Wii U is powered down to check for available SpotPass data or software and system updates. Software updates will be installed while the Wii U is powered down, and system updates will be installed the next time the Wii U is powered on. For further detailed information, click here.
Improvements to system stability and usability:
Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.”
Unfortunately this is not the major summer update that was confirmed to be coming back in the January Nintendo Direct. Speaking of which, Nintendo has also stated that the Wii U update will be coming either near the end of September or early in October. Those of us expecting the update this month or in August (you know, in the actual Summer-time!) will have to hold out a little longer than anticipated. Once again, Nintendo is traditionally late. It seems everything Nintendo tends to announce ends up being pushed-back from the date or period of time they originally planned.
Nintendo also commented on the highly-anticipated summer Wii U update:
*A system update providing further additions to system functionality is planned for release between the end of September and beginning of October.
I was personally looking forward to the summer update to see what new features it will be bringing to the table. We already have hints of extended Wii U Chat functionally via PDF files from Vidyo, the software company that created Wii U Chat and other functions for the Wii U. But it looks like we’ll have to wait a month or two longer until we can find out.by
