Crytek has confirmed that the CryEngine 4 will be supported on Wii U. Considering the amount of spite most 3rd-parties have toward the system, this is great news for Nintendo and Wii U owners:
“Crytek have ushered in a new era for their state-of-the-art CRYENGINE technology, with the launch of the new CRYENGINE an ever-evolving technology service, with always up to date access to the latest features in CRYENGINE for commercial game licensees.
On top of these changes, the new CRYENGINE supports development on current and next generation consoles (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U), alongside PC, with further platforms to be added in the near future.”
There has also been a tech demo released showcasing the beauty of this new engine:
The fact that Crytek considers the Wii U a next-generation system also speaks volumes for the console. This news obviously acts as further contradiction of EA’s past comments about the Wii U’s power. But spec-talk aside, this confirmation also means that EA plans on bringing future CryEngine 4 games to the system, or else they wouldn’t bother supporting the Wii U with it in the first place.
Look like EA is slowly starting to ramp support back up for Nintendo’s console.by
